Fans of chicken salad should check their refrigerators to make sure they don’t have a certain brand that’s recently been recalled. Earlier this week, Triple T Specialty Meats issued a recall for all it’s chicken salad products “sold at Fareway stores between January 4 and February 9.” The decision to recall to product came after “an investigation by the CDC and the US Department of Agriculture linked a multi-state salmonella outbreak to chicken salad produced by the company in January and February.”

According to the recall notice, the potentially tainted chicken salad was “sold at Fareway grocery stores in Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska and South Dakota,” though the majority of the sick individuals reside in Iowa. Fortunately, no deaths have occurred in relation to the deadly outbreak, though 65 people have been sickened and “28 people have been hospitalized.”
To help consumers better identify whether or not they have one of the recalled products, the recall notice includes a list of affected products, including the following:
- 3950 lbs. of two 5 lb. bags with “CHICKEN SALAD, PACKED FOR FAREWAY WHOLESALE COMPANY” on the label with a pack date of 01/02/18.
- 1250 lbs. of two 5 lb. bags with “CHICKEN SALAD, PACKED FOR FAREWAY WHOLESALE COMPANY” on the label with a pack date of 01/03/18.
- 3700 lbs. of two 5 lb. bags with “CHICKEN SALAD, PACKED FOR FAREWAY WHOLESALE COMPANY” on the label with a pack date of 01/12/18.
- 2010-lbs. of two 5 lb. bags with “CHICKEN SALAD, PACKED FOR FAREWAY WHOLESALE COMPANY” on the label with a pack date of 01/19/18.
- 3660-lbs. of two 5 lb. bags with “CHICKEN SALAD, PACKED FOR FAREWAY WHOLESALE COMPANY” on the label with a pack date of 01/24/18.
- 2770-lbs. of two 5 lb. bags with “CHICKEN SALAD, PACKED FOR FAREWAY WHOLESALE COMPANY” on the label with a pack date of 01/31/18.
- 3290-lbs. of two 5 lb. bags with “CHICKEN SALAD, PACKED FOR FAREWAY WHOLESALE COMPANY” on the label with a pack date of 02/07/18.
Additionally, all the recalled chicken salad has the “establishment number ‘P-21011’ printed inside the USDA mark of inspection.”
If you or someone you know has any of the recalled chicken salad, you should dispose of it immediately or return it to the place of purchase for a refund. Anyone who has consumed the tainted product should keep a lookout for any symptoms and seek medical attention if necessary. A few common symptoms of salmonella poisoning include fever, diarrhea, and abdominal cramps.
