Vienna Beef Hot Dogs Recalled Over Contamination Concerns

The USDA is recalling nearly 2,000 pounds of Vienna Beef hot dogs over potential contamination concerns.

As Memorial Day draws near, many people may be getting ready for the first cookouts of the year. This means many people will be stocking up on hot dogs, burgers, and the like. Unfortunately, one popular brand of hot dog is being recalled at the moment. Earlier this month, Vienna Beef issued a recall of 2,000 pounds of beef hot dogs amid concerns they may be contaminated with pieces of metal. The recall was issued after “an establishment discovered metal in some of the franks.” Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries or illnesses so far.

According to the USDA, the recall includes Vienna Beef’s ‘Skinless Beef Frankfurters.’ The products were shipped to food service locations throughout Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin and were produced on May 2, 2019. According to the recall notice, the following products are affected:

• 10-lb. cases containing “SKINLESS BEEF FRANKFURTERS 6” 8’s 10#” with case code 013180 and package code 9122 represented on the label.
• 10-lb. cases containing “SKINLESS BEEF FRANKFURTERS 6” 11’s 10#” with case code 013312 and package code 9122 or 9123 represented on the label.
• 10-lb. cases containing “SKINLESS BEEF FRANKFURTERS 7” 9’s 10#” with case code 013490 and package code 9122 or 9123 represented on the label.

For now, consumers should either throw away any recalled hot dogs in their refrigerator or freezer or return them for a refund.
