When parents buy their children toys, they do so with the mindset that they’re safe to play with. Certainly, they don’t think that their child’s new toy would be hazardous or harmful to play with. Unfortunately, one popular toy has been declared dangerous and is now being recalled. TOMY’s Munching Max Chipmunk toys are being recalled because, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, parts inside the toys can “break and puncture the fabric,” posing a laceration hazard. So far only one child has been injured because of the issue.

So what should parents do about the recalled toy? How can they tell if their child’s toy is part of the recall? Well, at the moment the toys are sold nationwide at “Babies R Us, Toys R Us and online” stores. Parents can identify whether or not their child’s toy is included in the recall by checking the item number, which is printed “along with ‘TOMY’ and ‘Lamaze’ on the fabric label near the stuffed animal’s tail.” The recalled toys have the item number L27578.
For now, parents are being urged to take the recalled stuffed toys away from their children. To obtain a replacement or refund, customers can contact TOMY International “toll-free at 866-725- 4407 from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. CT Monday through Thursday and 7:30 a.m. to noon Friday” or online at http://recall.tomy.com.
