Gweneth Paltrow was recently hit with a lawsuit alleging she ran over a man on a ski slope in Utah, causing him to sustain physical and mental injuries.
Gweneth Paltrow is at the center of a new lawsuit over allegations that she ran over a man on a ski slope in Park City, Utah and left him there as she skied off. The suit was filed by the man she allegedly ran over, Terry Sanderson, 72. Sanderson is a retired optometrist who claims the actress “skied into him from behind, knocking him down, landing on top of him, and causing him to suffer a concussion, brain injury, and four broken ribs.”
Sanderson is represented by two lawyers, Lawrence D. Buhler and Robert B Sykes. Together they described Paltrow’s actions as the “product of carelessness and cruelty.” When describing the incident, Sanderson said that right before the collision occurred, he heard “hysterical screaming like…King Kong in the jungle or something.”
In addition, the lawyers cited the National Ski Area Association’s Skier Responsibility Code and argued that “Paltrow should have avoided him, based on the code…which even applies to celebrities, believe or not.” Sykes added that the code “applies to Gwyneth Paltrow. What Miss Paltrow did that day was knock Terry Sanderson down, pick herself up, dust herself off and ski off.”
The suit further claims that, as a result of the collision, Sanderson not only suffered physical and mental injuries but also struggles with “pain, suffering, loss of enjoyment of life, emotional distress and disfigurement…anxiety, depression and other health problems.” Additionally, he racked up “medical expenses and additional life care expenses.”
In response to the allegations, a representative for Paltrow said the lawsuit was baseless. They added, “This lawsuit is completely without merit. Anyone who reads the facts will realize that.”
Paltrow isn’t the only defendant in the suit, though. Deer Valley Resort Company, where the incident occurred, along with Deer Valley ski instructor Eric Christiansen are also named. Christiansen was allegedly with the actress at the time of the collision. In fact, Sanderson claims in his suit that Christensen yelled at him while he was on the ground. To make matters worse, the lawsuit also argues that Christensen “filed a false report to protect Paltrow, making it appear like Sanderson was at fault for the collision.”
In filing his lawsuit, Sanderson is seeking financial damages. However, on a number of occasions, Sanderson has mentioned that all he really wants is for Paltrow to acknowledge what she did and apologize to him. Since the incident, the actress hasn’t said a single word to him acknowledging what she did.
