This video post comes courtesy of an awesome E-Sister, @shinyangie on Twitter. It’s great coverage of the Essure issue in general, but the real news comes toward the end of the video. In response to a direct question from the reporter, Dr. Edio Zampaglione from Bayer admits Essure causes autoimmune disorders.

Spoiler alert: he doesn’t seem to think it’s that big of a deal. The rate of occurrence, after all, is about 0.1%. Even if we accept that of the 750,000 Essure kits sold only 450,000 of them were successfully used, that is still 450 women now facing Lupus and other life-altering autoimmune disorders. Utterly unacceptable “collateral damage” in my opinion.

It is, however, a step in the right direction. At least now, those who suffer from Essure-related autoimmune conditions have something they can use to help convince their doctors to help. These are often very difficult diagnoses to get and the conditions go untreated.
