This week’s Feel Good Friday (actually on Friday this week!) is about a Texas attorney helping Veterans through martial arts. Amber Pang Parra, Pharmaceutical Attorney at Justinian PLLC, not only works hard on behalf of her clients, fighting Big Pharma, she also runs a non-profit.

MAX4Warriors is a non-profit that provides scholarships to combat Veterans as well as discounts to the dependents of active-duty service men and women who are stationed overseas. These scholarships allow recipients to study martial arts and reap the benefits of such study, including increased fitness, “in recognition for the great service they have rendered to this Nation.” According to the organization’s Facebook page, its mission is:
“To provide combat soldiers and the dependents of soldiers deployed overseas with the opportunity to pursue their own martial arts excellence and to enjoy the physical, mental, and other benefits of martial arts study.”
MAX4Warriors was founded as a means to supplement the Military Assistance Program (MAP) of Team Chip TKD Centers – Alamo City location. In keeping with the goals of the MAP, MAX4Warriors’ scholarships not only help with the cost of the training itself, but also help with the costs connected to the training like sparring equipment and uniforms.
Team Chip TKD Center – Alamo City is, according to a post on its Facebook page, “about so much more than just martial arts, so much more than kicking and punching. From the first day white belt to the longest tenured black belts and their families we are truly a TEAM. Over the years, our team has transformed into a FAMILY. A family through thick and thin. A family who remembers the joy of the mountaintop when down in the valleys. Blood, sweat and tears, invested in servant leadership.”
Not only is this commitment to “servant leadership” apparent in Team Chip Alamo City’s work (and all of the Team Chip TKD Centers), as well as in that of MAX4Warriors, by giving back to our nation’s Veterans and the families of active-duty servicemen and servicewomen, it’s apparent in the giving spirit of the Alamo City Center’s non-training work.
According to a post made to Team Chip Alamo City’s Facebook page, past giving efforts have included fundraising for a family in need via selling “Team Chip Family” bracelets.
I thoroughly enjoy doing these Feel Good Friday posts. It feels good to recognize the hard work, the good work, put forth by lawyers in the communities in which they live and work. This one is especially heartwarming as the efforts here go to help an often taken-for-granted and underserved community. Our Veterans and active-duty servicemen and servicewomen and their families have made/continue to make some of the biggest, hardest sacrifices possible. Risking life and limb, leaving family and home for long periods of time, these are sacrifices I’m not sure many of us would or could make. Yet, these brave people do it every single day.
As we’ve all seen in the news, the VA and other governmental departments struggle to do right by our military and their families. Sometimes, these efforts work; often, they don’t. That’s why today’s Feel Good Friday is so important to me. Amber Pang Parra, you are also a true American hero and it is my pleasure to recognize you, MAX4Warriors and TeamChipTKD Centers – Alamo City for your good work!
