“The Passport Policy […] is motivated by impermissible animus,” ACLU attorney Jessie Rossman wrote in the lawsuit. “It cannot be justified under any level of judicial scrutiny, and it wrongly seeks to erase the reality that transgender, intersex, and nonbinary people exist today as they always have.”
“CFPB employees have been placed in questionable status as they have been directed not to work but they have not been formally placed on any authorized type of leave,” the National Treasury Employees Union said. “It is substantially like that these initial directives are a precursor to a purge of CFPB’s workforce, which is now prohibited from fulfilling the agency’s statutory mission.”
“The conduct of officials in Chicago and Illinois minimally enforcing—and oftentimes affirmatively thwarting—federal immigration laws over a period of years has resulted in countless criminals being released into Chicago who should have been held for immigration removal from the United States,” the lawsuit alleges.
“President Trump’s actions to dissolve USAID exceed presidential authority and usurp legislative authority conferred upon Congress by the Constitution, in violation of the separation of powers,” the lawsuit alleges.
“In the context of this case, disclosure of OSHA records to the leader of multiple companies with ongoing OSHA investigations presents clear risks both to workers and to the integrity of OSHA’s enforcement efforts,” the lawsuit says.
Labor unions criticized the short, nine-day resignation window provided to federal employees, with the lawsuit calling the original deadline “an arbitrary date […] selected to put maximum pressure on the federal workforce so that they would accept the offer, in many cases contrary to federal agency and federal employee interests.”
“After all, as long as the sensitive data of Plaintiffs’ members remains accessible to Mr. Musk and other members of DOGE, the more opportunity there is for that data to be disclosed to still more unauthorized parties, either accidentally or deliberately,” the lawsuit alleges.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that the pause is intended to block funding for programs that the Trump administration opposes, including programs related to DEI and the Green New Deal.
“CBS may be reaching a legal settlement with Trump because he didn’t like how a campaign interview with Kamala was edited. Really?” Sanders wrote on Twitter. “If CBS caves, the belief that we have an independent media protected by the First Amendment is undermined.”
“[AG Rokita] stated he talked to Sheriff Redman multiple times, which is false,” the St. Joseph County’s Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “The Sheriff has never even spoken to Todd Rokita. He stated that we do not cooperate with ICE, which is false. We regularly communicate with ICE. When the jail receives a detainer or request from ICE, staff promptly informs immigration officials when that individual will be released on their criminal charges for detainment by ICE.”
