Soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo is at the center of rape allegations filed by a Nevada woman who claims Ronaldo raped her back in 2009 and then “dispatched a team of ‘fixers’ to obstruct the criminal investigation and trick her into keeping quiet for $375,000.” The woman’s suit was filed after she requested police to reopen the criminal case last month. Earlier today, Las Vegas Police confirmed that they had indeed reopened the sexual assault case.
In response to the lawsuit filed by the alleged victim, Ronaldo has so far denied all allegations and released an Instagram video saying, “Fake. Fake news…you want to promote by my name. It’s normal. They want to be famous, to say my name. But it is part of the job. I am a happy man and all good.”
What allegedly happened, though?
According to the lawsuit, the woman, who was 24-years-old at the time of the alleged rape, “went with a friend to the Rain nightclub at the Palms Hotel and Casino on the night of June 12, 2009, and met Ronaldo there.” From there, Ronaldo allegedly “invited a group of people up to his suite to enjoy the view of the Las Vegas strip and then into the hot tub.”
While she was changing into her suit for the hot tub, the woman claims Ronaldo “barged in on her as she was changing, exposed himself and asked her for oral sex.” The suit added that “when she refused, he raped her.”
The same day as the alleged attack, the woman reported the incident to police and requested a sexual assault test, “which was performed at the University Medical Center.” However, while reporting the incident to police, she “refused to tell police where the assault took place or assist with identifying a suspect other than to say he was a European soccer player.”
In addition to the allegations of sexual assault, the lawsuit also accuses “Ronaldo or those working for him of battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, coercion and fraud, abuse of a vulnerable person, racketeering and civil conspiracy, defamation, abuse of process, breach of contract, and negligence for allowing details of the confidential settlement to leak out.”
As a result of her ordeal, the suit claims she experienced psychological trauma from the sexual assault and stated:
“The psychological trauma of the sexual assault, the fear of public humiliation and retaliation and the reiteration of those fears by law enforcement and medical providers left plaintiff terrified and unable to act or advocate for herself.”
The woman’s suit is seeking general damaged, punitive damages, special damages, and more in excess of $50,000. Additionally, the suit is seeking funds to cover court and attorney fees.
