Marzetti Co., which “announced the voluntary recall as a precautionary measure.”

For now, consumers are being urged to return the products. Even though no illnesses have been reported yet, it’s important to note that listeria is a serious illness, and “can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems,” according to the recall notice. In addition, it can also cause “short-term symptoms in healthy individuals such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.”

For starters, the recalled products were shipped throughout 12 different states, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.
