USDA Recalls 11,664 Pounds of Red Hot Chicken and Pork Sausage Products

Earlier this week, the USDA announced a recall of 11,664 pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry sausages produced by R.L. Ziegler Company. The recall was issued over concerns that the Red Hot chicken and pork sausage products may be “contaminated with extraneous materials, specifically metal.”

Earlier this week, the USDA announced a recall of 11,664 pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry sausages produced by R.L. Ziegler Company. The recall was issued over concerns that the Red Hot chicken and pork sausage products may be “contaminated with extraneous materials, specifically metal.”

According to the recall notice, the products were produced November 29, 2018, and included the following:

• 24-oz. plastic packages containing approximately 9 links of “ZEIGLER A TRADITION OF GREAT TASTE RED HOTS” with a “Use By Jan 24 19” date
• 24-oz. plastic packages containing approximately 9 links of “EXTRA HOT ZEIGLER A TRADITION OF GREAT TASTE RED HOTS” with a “Use By Jan 24 19” date.

All of the recalled products have establishment number ‘EST. P-9156S’ printed inside the USDA mark of inspection, and were shipped to retailers nationwide. The issue itself was discovered after Ziegler received two separate consumer complaints on December 13 and 27, 2018. In response, the company “investigated to determine the nature of the complaints and notified the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) on Dec. 29, 2018.”

Fortunately, there have been no reports of adverse reactions over the consumption of the products. If you have any of the recalled products in your refrigerator or freezer, it’s important to either throw them away or return them for a refund.
